David : Explorer Center of Gravity

Center of Gravity

Posted on Jan 13th, 2006 by David : Explorer David

As I was walking with Brian the other day, we had a conversation that brought up some thoughts that I'm going to try hard to relay here. This thinking thing isn't easy for me you know!

We were talking about the community that is shaping up here at *zaadz. It  reminded me of something that Ken Wilber had talked about. Bear with me here as I don't remember exactly how it was worded.  The gist of it is that as an individual develops, society will pull them by the scruff of the neck up to the center of gravity of that society. Once they try to grow beyond that center, society will pull to prevent further growth. Makes sense to me. Similar to actual gravity. We see it all of the time. So much of our culture doesn't seem to support out of the box thinking. Which is kind of funny because that’s where all of the innovation and growth has come from in the past.

Basically, what is exciting me is that here at zaadz there already seems to be a much higher center of gravity than I experience in most other places. I’m sure you feel it too. You know that all of you guys reading this are extremely well developed. Well, most….. maybe some of you! OK, we’re hoping to be someday! ;)

Seriously though, with this kind of thinking and content here, we are growing with each other and raising this  center of gravity. Which will ultimately spill over and raise the center of gravity of the whole world. What a great thing to be a part of.

So come on people, keep on pulling me by my neck scruff (I know…..that sounds a little strange) and let’s push this envelope! With enough momentum we can completely break free of gravity altogether.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I remember reading a great quote in a book by Brian Tracy , if my memory serves me right. To paraphrase he says that when NASA is launching a space shuttle into the Universe beyond Earth, 95% of the energy it will use in its entire trip is spent during takeoff. 95%! The hardest part is getting it to break free of gravity, after that, its smooth sailing. This applies directly to our lives in present society. Come on guys, lets use that 95%! Then we’ll just chill on the beach eating mangoes later, utilizing our 5%.
PS. I like my neck scruff.

Great thoughts.  Indeed, we all need to be interdependently tugging on each other’s scruff’s of the neck (or something like that :)

Is this not Zaadz entire raison d’etre- (uh….why we are here)
Are we not an online social and business networking site who’s goal is to change the world by lifting the center of gravity of our culture by connecting, inspiring, and empowering conscientious individuals and enterprises? I think we just might be….

(pssst… I miss you)

Hi David!  I’ve been meaning to respond to this blog for days - it has definitely been in my consciousness.  As I am moving closer to my jump-off date from my 18+ year advertising career to being a full-time life coach, I have felt that societal tug more than ever.  More comments like “owning your own business is hard” or “there are definitely negative forces out there”, or questions like “do you really think you’ll be able to support yourself” or “what if it doesn’t work out” seem to be coming at me from left, right and center.  In response, I’m choosing to fuel the 95% of my lift-off journey with the knowing that everything is perfect, and that it is more than possible for everything to unfold with grace and ease.  From personal experience, I know that doing the things that need to be done can feel like hard work or pure joy depending on where I am inside.  So, I’m choosing to trust and be open and enjoy the ride.  Here goes blast-off!!
